Should not Wear Revealing Clothes but Promote Rubber

rubber I don't know how to start this. My mind is still screaming from last night's small debate.
My husband asked me how I feel about Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) promoting condoms. He said he thinks it is a good idea to educate young people in America about having safe sex. Young people are mostly swayed by Hollywood figures. I am sure most of us have heard of those seven high school students in Gloucester, Massachusetts who got pregnant shortly after Jamie Lynn Spears went public with her big bump.
So my husband's point of view is simple: why not have someone like Miley Cyrus who is adored by a million young Americans (and who seems to have a wholesome image) to promote safe sex among young generation.
I said, if I were Miley or her parents I would not take the offer. Why not? Because a young girl of 15  (or 16) should not be condoning premarital sex at all.
He said, "but young ones will have sex". And saying kids will not have sex is being in denial and naive. Teaching them to use condoms is being responsible and will prevent pregnancy. Since kids can't help experimenting and exploring, they should be at least responsible enough to use a protection.
Fine, I see where he is coming from. However, just because a father had great sex in his car with his sweet girlfriend when he was 15 should not be handing out rubbers to his kids because it is the way to be safe and responsible.
Certainly, I would not mind telling my children  the facts (and fiction) about sex but I would not promote the use of any protection. And why not? Again, premarital sex should not be condoned especially among the young generation.
When I was in high school, we had countless lectures on sex and its effects. Yes, the use of condoms among others was mentioned. But did that mean sex was promoted? No. Those lectures even made us more aware of the numerous sexually transmitted diseases and infections one could get despite the use of protection. Pregnancy was even the least of our concerns.
I think that parents and educators should be more responsible than just telling the children about the use of protection. If say, Miley Cyrus should endorse some condom brand, the company should at least educate the youth that using a rubber is not safe - it is only safer than not using any rubber at all. The safest way is to stay away from promiscuity.
I don't want to lecture the emotional and psychological effects of premarital sex on a young and even on not so young individual. I don't think I am the right person to do that.
My friend and (unofficial for now) editor Adrian, share the same views. The young generation needs a thorough information on sexual intercourse and its effects, and not just having someone they look up to promoting the use of protection.

The Bucket List

This movie is about two terminally ill patients who chose to spend the last days of their lives out in the world rather than stay in the care of hospital personnel.

Reasons to watch this movie:

If you're a fan of either Jack Nicholson or Morgan Freeman, this movie may interest you.

Values learned from the all-knowing Morgan Freeman

Sense of humour from the obnoxious Jack Nicholson

Values friendship, if you still believe in friendship.

If you are looking for ways to live your life as if it were the last day.

Reasons not to watch this movie:

If you are afraid to face death

If you don't like seeing old guys

If you are nothing but a damn hater

Sweeney Todd:The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I have been a fan of Johnny Depp since his movie, "Edward Scissorhands". I have seen him portray different roles and I must say he did them all well. He's got his own creepy way of portraying his roles but in a good way.

Watching "Sweeeney Todd" was another way of seeing Depp showcase his talent. Although I was not so amazed by his singing/acting this time. Not because it was bad but because I have seen him in so many different roles that it was no longer a surprise for me to see him sing on the big screen.

I was rather surprised by Helena Borham Carter's acting. Perhaps it's because I could only remember her as a villain in "Harry Potter".

The movie was quite ghoulish and perhaps depressing for those who love happy endings. But it could have been better if Sweeney Todd killed one more character.

All in all, the movie teaches us that what goes around, comes around.

Atonement

I haven't seen a British film in awhile. And I am glad my cousin was thoughtful enough to give me a copy of this movie.

It is one of those films you would not want to miss. That is, if you are into those posh and intellectual British movies.

I like the way how they showed the movie in different points of view. That younger sister was bone-chilling weirdo but she was interesting.

I especially liked the way it ended. It's something you can't commonly find in Hollywood films.

But then the movie is based on a book. I haven't read it but it must be good too. Or even better.

There are some dragging scenes but all in all it is a superb film I personally recommend.

Although, I don't think Keira Knightley's physical appearance fit for the role. I don't think that any woman in the 1930's was as skinny as she is.

Sex and the City

5/30/2008

It's nice to see those four fabulous ladies again. And it's nicer because they are on the big screen this time.

So maybe a lot of people think, especially those who never cared to watch the TV series, think it's all about four women and sex, or four women about outrageously expensive clothes and shoes. Well, it's a movie about four lady friends living in New York so what else could the story be all about?

True, some of the scenes are hot,the men are gorgeous, and the women are fabulous but this movie is not just about material things in life. I think what makes this movie stand out from any of the chick flicks is that it is a story of four friends who have been through thick and thin and despite the many shoes and men they have had in their lives, at the end of the day, they still have one another. And that is something that is rare to find nowadays. Especially in a busy world like New York.

Moreover, the wit and the humor they put in the movie come out so naturally among these ladies.

But of course, I can't help ooh-ing on the wedding dresses, the shoes, and even the purses they featured in the movie!
